Crossing the Chasm & Healing the Divide

The Unity Labour Party Manifesto 2015
Table of Contents

"There is a veritable developmental chasm or divide in St. Vincent and the Grenadines made manifest as a consequence of our nation’s limitation of material resources, our historical legacy of underdevelopment, the contemporary challenges of modern globalisation and trade liberalisation, and our country’s extraordinary vulnerability to natural disasters.  This chasm or divide cannot be crossed by taking ‘baby steps’ or by persons possessed of a debilitating caution or ‘learned helplessness’.  ‘Baby steps’, and an accompanying damning pessimism, will condemn us to fall below the widening gorge.  This chasm or divide can only be crossed by bold leaps of faith and reason, by applying one’s heart to wisdom, by trusting in our people’s goodness and capacity, by creative ideas fashioned into implementable practical programmes buttressed by an enduring love for the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Leading this venture is not for the weak, the tired or the faint-hearted.  It is leadership tried and tested, proven in battle, and blessed by Almighty God for the tasks at hand and those ahead which will ensure the shaping of our future together, for the better!”
